The Benefits from Drinking RAW EGGS

This web page is about MY experience drinking raw eggs.
I have written it as a guide to help others make their own decision about drinking raw eggs.

As a kid growing up I LOVED adding a raw eggs to my milkshake.

In 2007 I started experimenting with raw eggs as my main source of nutrition. When I first started on raw eggs I was living in Thailand at a Thai boxing camp, I was training 4 – 6 hours a day and consuming on average 12 – 16 raw eggs everyday. My weight was maintained and my energy was HIGH.

It‘s now 2017 and I am happy to say that I am still drinking raw eggs EVERY day.

The first thing I want to mention is that since I have been drinking raw eggs (10+ years) …  I have NOT been sick. No cold, flu or any health issues caused from eating raw eggs contaminated with Salmonella. I haven’t had a sick day from work for 10+ years.

 How Many Eggs a day
During Exercise my rule is 2 raw eggs for each hour of exercise. That = 1 egg drink before training and 1 after training. If im cycling or doing 20km runs I might have 2 raw eggs before exercise as fuel to burn and 1- 2  eggs after the ride for recovery.

If im not exercising then I try to limit my raw egg consumption to 4 – 6 eggs a day. 4 eggs a day I can maintain / lose weight, 6 – 8 eggs a day with out exercise I would gain weigh.

How to test the quality and freshness of an egg
Place a raw egg into a glass bowl filled with water. A fresh egg  (less than 7 days old) will sit on the bottom of the bowl. An egg that is 10 – 20 days old will float a little on one side of the egg but still be in contact with the bottom of the glass bowl. If the egg is bad or older than 20 days it will float.

Try to buy fresh free range farm eggs. The yolk of a fresh should be bright yellow in colour, the yolk of an old egg will be a dark yellow colour.

Refrigerating your eggs 
Eggs have a membrane that coats the shell of the egg. When an egg shell is cleaned / washed the membrane is washed off with it and the egg will need to be refrigerated to stop it from going off. A  farm fresh egg  that has not been washed will not require refrigeration because the membrane protects the egg.  BUT beware … an unwashed egg has contaminates on the shell such as bird shit. You should wash your hands after handling an unwashed egg or you may end up  accidentally contaminating your food. ALL eggs sold in  Australia / NZ / USA supermarkets  are washed before they can be sold to the general public.

The most important factor when purchasing eggs, is to understand the labeling of eggs.

Pastured eggs – Pastured eggs come from chickens that are allowed to roam in pasture as nature intended.  Chickens are not vegetarians, they are meant to forage for grubs and bugs in grass. While supplementing their diet with some grain-based feed (not soy feed) is a traditional practice, the chickens should also be eating grubs.

Free Range eggs – The term “free range” means that the hens have some access to outdoor space – even if this is 5 minutes per day in a gravel-paved lot. The chickens are usually de-beaked, given antibiotics and fed soy/grain-based feed.

Organic eggs – Organic eggs come from chickens who are fed only organic, non-GMO feed and do not receive hormones or antibiotics. The chickens must have “access to outdoor space” although this certainly does not guarantee than the chickens can forage in grass, as they should.

Grade A or B eggs – Conventional eggs, sold without any specific marketing terms, are from tightly confined chickens that often never see the light of day. They receive regular doses of antibiotics and are de-beaked to prevent them from pecking themselves or each other.

Cage Free eggs – This is a meaningless term and in no way ensures ethical treatment of the chickens. “Cage Free” chickens are usually confined in a packed shed and are also painfully de-beaked. They receive antibiotics and soy/grain-based feed.

 

Why are raw eggs so GOOD for your body ?

The fat in the yolk gives the body a HUGE amount of quality fuel. Fat is a better form of fuel than carbs and as long as the fat is un heated (un cooked) it can fuel your body during endurance exercise for longer period.
The nutrient’s in a raw egg  is what most people are lacking to maintain good health.  Our western diet of cooked food  is nutrient depleted, mostly carbs and protein  but majority of the nutrients are destroyed during the cooking process. Consuming raw eggs every day is like taking a  NATURAL vitamin supplement in its natural form as nature intended… NO need to buy expensive supplements if you already have the real thing.

The yolk is the most nutritious part of the egg.
The white contains protein, but the yolk has nearly all of the vitamin and mineral content. The egg yolk also contains the fat that fuels your body during exercise. For decades nutritionists have told us to favor the whites over the yolks, but now we have a better understanding of eggs as a food source, its  now recommended that an egg is consumed as a complete package, whites and yolk.

Vitamin A –  Vitamin A is only found in animal products, egg yolks are a rich sources of this vitamin necessary for balanced hormones. Since vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin, it is paired with the healthful fats in the yolk so we can absorb it.

Vitamin D – Like vitamin A, vitamin D is another fat-soluble vitamin sorely lacking from the Western diet. The vast majority of individuals do not receive adequate vitamin D from sunlight.

Choline – More than 90% of people Australians are deficient in this B vitamin and one pastured egg yolks provides 35% of your daily value of choline. Choline supplementation has been shown to reduce memory loss and choline plays and important role in the body’s detoxification pathways, because it provides methyl groups to the liver which help neutralize toxins.

Selenium – Selenium is necessary for the conversion of thyroid hormones from the inactive form to the active form. Egg yolks are nature’s thyroid support supplement, due to the selenium content, vitamin content and healthful fats. (About 40% of the selenium is found in the white and 60% is in the yolk.)

Iodine – Iodine  stimulates good  health of the thyroid.  Pastured egg yolks are a valuable source of iodine, with one egg yolk containing 27 micrograms of iodine.Vitamin B6Raw egg yolks contain a moderate amount of B6. This heat-sensitive vitamin is diminished with cooking, so consuming raw yolks ensures the maximum absorption of this essential nutrient.

Biotin – An egg provides about 25% of your daily needs for biotin. This B-vitamin plays a key role in skin, hair, metabolic and blood-sugar health. 80% of the biotin is found in the yolk and 20% is in the white.

Omega-3 fatty acids – Pastured egg yolks are particularly rich in omega-3 fatty acids, the anti-inflammatory fats so crucial to all aspects of wellbeing.


Take NOTE: The Oldest Person in the world (Emma Munro ) aged 117  at the time of writing this, has been eating 2 raw eggs a day since her early 20’s


My favorite RAW eggs drinks

(1) Milk, Ginger, Tumric … Blend together milk, ginger and  fresh tumric. Add 1 egg and some freshly grinned pepper and blend again for short period. Heat in microwave for 30 – 40 seconds… This makes a Yummy hot milk drink on a cold winter day.

(2) 500 ml FRESH Coconut water, 1 table Spirulina powder + 1 table spoon of Psyllium husks, 1- 2 raw eggs

(3) Raw unpasteurized milk, 1 table spoon of drinking chocolate, 1 table spoon of Psyllium husks, 1 – 2 raw eggs

(4) 500 ml of Kefir Milk, 1 banana, passion fruit, fresh mixed berries, 1 table spoon of Psyllium husks, 1 – 2 raw eggs

Kefir MILK … It is a refreshing pro-biotic drink made from fermenting milk. When fermented kefir becomes more like a pro-biotic drinking yoguart. Kefir originated in the Caucasus Mountains many centuries ago.

Unlike yogurt you buy in the supermarket, kefir contains around thirty strains of good bacteria such as lactobacillus bacteria. Kefir has anti-tumour properties, It is an anti-inflammatory and is an excellent stimulant for your immune system.

Kefir grains produce their own antibiotics and is rich in minerals and vitamins such as iron, calcium, magnesium, folic acid, particularly the B group & vitamin K2.

Kefir slows the aging process and has many healing properties such as helping with heart and artery disease, lowering cholesterol levels and regulating hypertension & blood pressure.
